First of all, let me say that Hardmaps are the best maps I've found. My friends and I (5 People) get together to play Joint Ops and we enjoy your maps the best. We've only been playing for a little while now. We hope to join your servers once we get better at the game. Anyway to my problem. While we're playing, some of our games lag or "jump". We all have either dsl or cable. Some maps will lock up some comps even. We use Ventrilo for voice and shut down everything running in the background, but still have the problem. We range from Oregon to Sweden in distance. I've searched for answers but nothing works. I figured as good as your maps are your members should know the cause and solution. I've read some posts here and seen that you don't like offering help to people running their own servers but in no means am I going to "recruit" players. We just want to get better at the game so we can join public servers like yours. I mean no disrespect to Hardmaps and I hope you continue to make the best maps around.

You don't have to train yourself to be good enough to join the hardmaps servers...Just jump in and get the best training you will find anywhere.
Playing along with all of us is the best training you can receive...
And regarding the Lag issue..Everybody is experiencing this. Depends on where the server is situated. If I join one of the North America servers (I'm in Europe) from Hardmaps I experience Lag as well. If I join one of the europe servers it's much better.
NUT ACE out....

I agree with Ace, its all to do with distance and how good your connection is, if you live way out in the countryside remember the further away from your exchange you are the poorer your connection will be, then your have to get to a server and all the way back to you again, all in the blink of an eye, its pretty amazing the speed of getting to and from the server and if the time is out by even half a second this can cause bad lag.
You get lag because of dropped packets when you cant get enough information from the server so some of the information it sends to you gets lost on the way.
If you have slower end computers try reducing the graphics quality as it could be graphics lag and not net lag, open the console command bar up, UK its the @ key and type fps, this will bring up your frame rate in game, if its low you need to adjust your graphics settings, if you look at the round spot in the top right corner while in game, if its green things are ok, yellow not bad but not great and red means your computer will self destruct in 15 seconds.
You really dont have to be good to play in the servers, if you join our ventrilo server you then have access to our passworded servers which are the best way to lern the game, you would also be able to play with others who use our vt server who could give you hints and tips on game play.
Im glad you read the bit on recruitment and server advertising, you will find we are strict with our rules but even more so you will find that everyone around is friendly and eager to have a game with you and your friends.
Thanks for the head's up on the lag. I thought that had to be the issue since we tried everything else. I will try out your servers. I spent quite awhile on your site last night. And I'll recommend to our other members to check out Hardmaps as well. Truely a teriffic site.

Hi Scats, Hardmaps is all about fun so don't think you have to be good enough to join (watch me in a game for proof). I do think, however, that to fully enjoy you should download VENTRILLO (link on this site and it's free)and get the best training there is, from the HMS guys and gals. In particular, I find the map tests the most satisfying (and funny). See you in the field my friend. Growing old is mandatory; Growing up is optional!
